Self Recovery Stirrup Lines
DESCRIPTION OF HAZARD-SUSPENSION TRAUMA:
Orthostatic intolerance may be experienced by workers using fall arrest systems. Following a fall, a worker may remain suspended in the harness and sustained immobility may lead to a state of unconsciousness. The resulting orthostatic intolerance may lead to death. While not common, such fatalities often are referred to as “harness-induced pathology” or “suspension trauma”.
SOLUTION:
A temporary solution is the inclusion of the Self Recovery Stirrup Line. When deployed by the worker, who then steps into the appropriate loop on the vertical line and stands up, the pressure exerted in the groin area by the straps supporting the body is released. As a result of this, and the ability to move the legs, the blood supply to the upper body is restored.
